PROFILE OF BARANGAY ATUYAN

The profile of Barangay “Atuyan” is characterized by two mountains facing each other. During the early morning, as the sun rises, it shines brightly between these mountains or hills. Likewise, during the afternoon, as the day ends, the fading rays of light rest along these same mountains. The barangay is situated on a flat area. The primary product of the barangay is rice, followed by coconut, and third are various vegetables and other crops. There is flowing water along the mountain area, which refers to a river that provides livelihood for the people and supports irrigation for the rice fields.

The green color surrounding the mountains symbolizes the presence of abundant forests within the barangay. The blue color seen in the sky represents the vastness and aspirations of the people living in the barangay. The white color visible in the sky symbolizes unity, freedom, and purity in the relationships among the residents. The early morning signifies the beginning and rising of the sun; the red color represents courage, discipline in facing challenges, and the readiness of the people to shed their own blood in order to protect the barangay.

HISTORY OF THE BARANGAY

The name of the barangay was derived from a man named ATOY, the oldest folk who lived in this barangay before the Second World War against the Japanese and Americans. Atoy was known as a very humble and hardworking man, which is why people looked up to him as a role model. In honor of his good deeds, the people used his name as the name of the Barangay (from ATOY to ATUYAN). In Tagalog terms, “ATINYAN” meaning “atoa ni”. The barangay was officially named Atuyan on April 15, 1920.

Barangay Atuyan has a total land area of 94.48 hectares.

• South – Barangay Carnaga
• West – Lawigan River

However, the barangay has no record indicating the law number related to its establishment.

The people who contributed to the establishment and development of this barangay since April 15, 1920 are:

During the term of Kapitan Guillermo S. Polo, Ordinance No. 01 Series of 1997 was enacted to officially affirm that the Barangay was established on April 15, 1920.
