HISTORICAL BACKGROUND
Barangay Tambis 2 is one of the 30 barangays belonging to the Municipality of Saint Bernard. Originally, Barangay Tambis 1 and Tambis 2 were a single entity simply named “Tambis.” However, as the population grew in 1972, residents living far from the village center desired to separate. This was motivated by the long distance they had to travel to attend church services and community meetings, as the original Barangay Tambis covered a very long stretch of land.
It was officially named Barangay Tambis 2, as the second barangay split from the original. Under the administration of Mayor Graciano Capili and through the efforts of the appointed captain, Simplecio Rufin, Sr.—with the support of residents who favored the separation—Barangay Tambis 2 was established.
Early Governance and Settlers
The first set of council members (kagawads) during the founding of Tambis 2 included:
- Pedro Olor
- Dominador Dalan
- Victor Igñilan
- Mariano Sanico
- Constantino Sabandal
- Conchita Mencide (Treasurer)
The pioneering families of the barangay were the Golez, Padilla, Sida, Bitayo, Sanico, Nantes, Teves, Olor, Rufin, Dalan, and Mencide families.
Challenges and Geography
Following its establishment, the barangay faced several calamities and trials. There was an insurgency problem due to the arrival of the NPA between 1979 and 1982. The community also endured Typhoon Bising in 1982 and Typhoon Ruping in 1990. Despite these hardships, Tambis 2 remains resilient today.
The barangay is currently divided into three (3) puroks, each managed by council members:
- Purok I: Managed by three council members.
- Purok II & III: Managed by two council members each.
The terrain of the barangay consists of both flatlands and slopes. It is located four (4) kilometers from the town proper and is accessible via jeepney, multicab, or motorcycle along a fully paved (cemented) road.
