HISTORICAL BACKGROUND

Barangay Tabontabon was established because of a tree named Tabontabon; in the early days, these trees grew in great abundance, which prompted the first inhabitants to name the place after them. The barangay was officially formed in 1946 with only ten households. These founding residents were Manuel Acampado, Benito Gula, Colito Gula, Miguel Salubre, Apolonio Talaboc, Andres Esaga, Bonifacio Quiawan, Merto Caser, Pacipeco Mundia, Ending Guhil, and Pedro Guhil.

In the past, the rivers of Barangay Tabontabon were abundant with freshwater shrimp, eels, mudfish, and freshwater snails. The forests were also rich with wild animals that provided the people with their main courses, and the fertile soil of Tabontabon yielded a bountiful harvest of crops.

The first leader of the barangay was Benito Gula, who served as the tenyente del baryo. Together with his councilors, they lived a peaceful and orderly life despite being far from the town center. Their patron saint is San Isidro Labrador, and they celebrate their annual feast every May 25-26.

The primary livelihoods of the people are based on products like abaca, sweet potato, cassava, and taro. Despite the difficult trails and transportation challenges at that time, the residents endured these hardships just to achieve their dreams of a prosperous life.
