History of the Barangay

Barangay Malinao became an official barrio in 1970. However, in 1960 it was called Barangay Anahawan because there were many anahaw trees in the area. After 1970, upon its official registration as a barrio, it was renamed Malinao.

The first leader from 1960 to 1970 was Barangay Captain Emelio Laruna, followed by Barangay Captain Fausto Pana from 1970 to 1980. From 1980 to 1985, the barangay was led by Barangay Captain Felipe Ramos, and from 1985 to 1994 by Barangay Captain Constancio Romero. From 1994 to 2007, the barangay captain was Nestor Sayod. From 2007 up to the present, the barangay captain has been Elizalde A. Miones.

The barangay was named Malinao because it was peaceful, free from conflict, and located far from other barangays. In January 2011, the entire population of the barangay relocated because the whole area was declared dangerous due to landslide risks. As a result, all the barangay’s plans were put on hold. Because of this, the residents needed to find a new and safer place where the barangay could be rebuilt without danger to its people.
