History of Barangay Libas

Barangay Libas derived its name from a tree called Libas that once stood at the center of the barangay. This tree became the symbol of the community and is currently located in the area of the chapel of Senior San Roque.

Barangay Libas was established on June 10, 1942, under the leadership of Adriano Parejo. He was a hardworking man who diligently managed and took care of the affairs of the barangay. He became a model of leadership, symbolized through the name of Barangay Libas.

The barangay was formally founded on June 10, 1942. The image of the barangay is flanked by two mountains. On the eastern side is a mountain called Bahay, where during early morning, the rising sun shines brightly between the mountain peaks. On the southern side stands another mountain called Kaabag, which serves as a major source of water that flows into the river known as Hinabian River. This river joins another river called Lawigan River, which then flows out to the sea in Saint Bernard. These rivers that surround Barangay Libas provide abundant food resources such as fish, freshwater shrimp (uwang), kujimpi, and eel (kasili). The main product of Barangay Libas is abaca, followed by coconut as its second major product.
